These are 3 common reasons why some families stop breastfeeding around 3 months.

1. You don't have the support you need--> (SCENARIO)You have been breastfeeding with some challenges for the last 3 months but don't know who you can talk to about it because when you mentioned it to your _______(ex. sister-in-law/friend/mom) she just said "Just switch to formula. That's what I did".
2. You are learning more than you need to. Everyone thinks they need a pump because USA influence and commercialism. Unfortunately, most people aren't using the right size flange when they do pump which leads to pain/swelling/poor output/low supply. Babies are much more efficient than pumps. Don't base your supply on what you pumped. From the onset of copious milk, your supply also regulates closer to the 6 week mark ---> (SCENARIO) You're pumping output is less than a couple weeks ago and you are concerned that baby is not getting enough.
 3. Your expectations are not meeting reality. Formula companies take advantage of this vulnerability. Baby's get fussy, especially in the evenings around the 6 week mark. This is not something you need to take personally but many of us do. IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT. It is not your milk supply. Unfortunately, many think it is and start supplementing with formula which often if not managed, will lead to a low milk supply. Developmentally, many babies go through a period of time in the evening where they are harder to console and may not want to nurse. We call this the Witching Hours ( Read more www.lllc.ca/witching-hours) ---> (SCENARIO)Your baby is fussy in the evenings lately so you give some formula since you got it in the mail for free and don't want it to go to waste.
